How to make magic trick videos with your phone

You don't need After Effects, green screens or sleight of hand. The oldest special effect in cinema — playing film backwards — still fools everyone in 2026, and your phone can do it in one tap.

The one principle behind every trick

Every "impossible" video below is the same move: film a destructive or irreversible action forwards, then play it backwards. Gravity, entropy and spills only run one way in real life — so when viewers see them run the other way, their brain files it as magic before logic catches up.

Five classic tricks to start with

1. Telekinesis

Throw an object out of your open hand, off-screen. Reversed: the object flies across the room into your waiting hand. Keep your eyes locked on where it will "come from" and your hand steady — the deadpan sell is everything.

2. The self-repairing object

Tear a sheet of paper, snap a breadstick, crumble a cookie. Reversed, it reassembles itself between your fingers. Slow, deliberate tearing reads best backwards.

3. Money attraction

Scatter banknotes off a table toward the camera. Reversed, the money leaps from the floor into a neat pile in front of you. (This is "How to attract money?" in the app's idea feed — half a million views.)

4. The un-spill

Pour juice from a glass onto a surface (put a towel down). Reversed, the puddle rises and pours itself back into the glass. Colored liquids read far better on camera than water.

5. Confetti resurrection

Dump a bucket of confetti over a friend's head. Reversed, the confetti swirls up off their shoulders and packs itself back into the bucket — one of the app's showcase examples.

Filming rules that make the trick invisible

• Lock the camera. Tripod, stack of books, anything. Camera shake played backwards is the #1 giveaway.
• Keep your body "reversible". Move slowly and smoothly; avoid blinking storms and jerky gestures that scream "backwards footage".
• Reverse only the money shot. In Reverse Movie FX, drag the fragment handles around the action itself. A normal lead-in makes the reversed moment land harder.
• Add the soundtrack. The app's magic music hides real-world audio cues (a splash "before" the pour) that could break the illusion.

How to do it in the app
