How to reverse a video with music & sound

Sound decides whether a reversed clip feels funny, magical or broken. Reverse Movie FX gives you three audio paths — here's when to use each, and how to set them up.

Option 1: reverse the original audio (comedy mode)

The picture and the sound run backwards. Speech turns into alien syllables, a splash becomes a slurp, laughter becomes something you can't unhear. This is the right choice for reaction content and challenges — the reversed audio is half the joke. It's also the mode behind the reverse singing challenge and talk-backwards videos, where flipping already-reversed speech makes it play forwards.

Option 2: add magic music (cinema mode)

The app replaces the clip's sound with built-in magic background music. Use this for magic trick videos and levitation effects: real-world audio cues (a thud before the float, a splash before the un-spill) can betray the trick, and a soundtrack hides them while making the clip feel produced.

Option 3: forward-backward loops (boomerang mode)

Instead of a single reversed pass, export the clip as a loop:

• Reversed + original — the action un-happens, then happens. Great for reveals.
• Original + reversed — the action happens, then un-happens. The classic boomerang; hypnotic on repeat and strong for watch time on TikTok and Reels.

Setting it up in the app

1. Open Reverse Movie FX and tap Start.
2. Record a clip or pick one from your gallery.
3. Drag the timeline handles around the fragment you want reversed.
4. On the options screen choose your audio (reversed original or magic music) and your output mode (reversed only, or one of the two loops).
5. Press Start. The rendered clip saves to your gallery with the audio baked in — ready for TikTok, Reels, Shorts or WhatsApp.

Which mode for which platform?

• TikTok: reversed original audio — the weird sound stops the scroll, and you can still layer a trending sound in TikTok's editor on top.
• Instagram Reels: magic music or a loop — polished clips perform better there.
• WhatsApp / family group chats: reversed audio, always. Grandma's backwards voice is undefeated.
